Platform transparency

Published pursuant to Article L.111-7 of the French Consumer Code and Article 5 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1150. This page describes how the platform actually works.

For our business model in detail — where the money comes from and where it goes — see Our business model.

1. What Love in Room is

Love in Room is an online booking platform for romantic and unusual accommodation.

It acts as a platform operator and intermediary: it provides the platform, presents listings, allows booking requests to be sent for some of them, passes those requests to the host, provides the technical payment infrastructure, technically applies the agreed booking and cancellation rules, and carries out the technical refund operations where they are due.

Love in Room is not the provider of the accommodation, is not the operator of the establishments listed, is not a party to accommodation contracts, is not a payment institution, and does not collect the price of stays on its own account.

2. Who offers the listings

The listings presented are those of hosts, who set the price, conditions and availability, and who perform the stay.

The accommodation contract is entered into directly between the traveller and the host. Love in Room is not a party to it.

3. Informational listings and bookable listings

Some listings are purely informational and do not allow any booking on Love in Room. They present an establishment without giving rise to any payment on the platform.

Only listings activated and managed by a host meeting the online booking conditions can give rise to a contract on the platform. Those conditions are set out in section 4.

Any operator may claim the listing relating to its establishment, or request its rectification or removal, from the listing itself. Admissible requests are reviewed as promptly as possible.

4. What a bookable listing implies

A listing can only offer online booking if all of the following conditions are met:

  1. the host has activated booking on that listing and chosen a cancellation policy;
  2. the host has an active subscription;
  3. the listing is published and includes at least three photographs;
  4. the host has an operational payment account with Stripe.

Bookable listings are offered by professional hosts, bound by Love in Room's terms and conditions of sale and holding an operational payment account.

The accommodation contract is entered into with the host, whose details are provided to the traveller with the booking confirmation.

5. How listings are ranked

On results pages, the main ranking parameters, in order of importance, are as follows:

1. Paused listings. A listing temporarily suspended by Love in Room is moved to the end of the list.

2. The host's subscription plan. Listings from hosts on the most complete plan appear before those on the intermediate plan, which in turn appear before those from hosts without an active subscription.

The host's subscription plan therefore influences ranking. We say so plainly rather than claim otherwise. It determines neither presence on the platform, nor indexation, nor access to booking: a listing without a subscription remains visible and accessible, it simply appears lower in the results.

3. Completeness of the listing. A listing with at least three photographs comes before one that does not have enough.

4. The sort order chosen by the visitor. Within these tiers, listings are ordered according to the sort selected:

  • relevance (default): by increasing distance from the location searched, within a 50 km radius;
  • price: ascending or descending;
  • newest: most recently published listings first.

Why these criteria

The first two tiers reflect a deliberate choice: the platform is funded by host subscriptions rather than by commission on stays, and the subscription buys better exposure. The third favours listings complete enough for a traveller to decide. The fourth is entirely governed by the visitor.

Ranking takes no account of the number of bookings, the review rating, or any particular arrangement with a host.

6. Paid placements

Featured placements may be purchased by hosts. They are distinct from the ranking described in section 5: they are reserved slots, limited in number, on certain pages.

A listing occupying a purchased placement carries the visible label “Partenaire”.

Editorial areas

Some editorial areas of the platform may combine editorial selections, recent listings and commercial placements.

Where a presentation constitutes a paid placement and the regulations require it, its commercial nature is indicated.

7. The “Vérifié” signal

The “Vérifié” label carried by some listings means that the host has completed and confirmed its contact details on the platform, and that the listing is published.

It does not constitute a verification of the quality, conformity or safety of the accommodation, nor a guarantee by Love in Room as to the service.

8. How Love in Room is paid

SourceAmount

Featured placementspublic rates, per placement and per period
Commission on the portion of a booking funded by a Love in Room gift card10% of that portion, borne by the host

Love in Room receives no commission on the portion of bookings paid by bank card.

The commission on the gift card portion is deducted from the amount due to the host. It never increases the price paid by the traveller: a gift card is applied against the price, it does not add to it.

Cleaning fees and tourist tax are excluded from the basis of this commission.

9. How payment works

Card payments are processed by Stripe on the payment account attached to the host. Love in Room provides the interface and the technical instructions enabling the payment to be carried out, but does not collect the price of the stay on its own account and is not a payment institution.

Card data is collected and stored by Stripe. Love in Room never has access to it.

Depending on the case, payment is immediate — the amount is held when the request is sent, then charged when the host accepts — or deferred — the payment method is saved without a charge, and payment is taken around thirty days before arrival. The applicable method is indicated to the traveller before validation.

Details are set out in Articles 11 to 15 of the booking terms and conditions.

10. Cancellations

For each of its listings, the host chooses one of the four cancellation policies offered by the platform — Flexible, Standard, Firm, Strict. It cannot write its own.

The applicable policy is displayed before the request is sent and locked in on the booking at the time it is confirmed. A later change by the host has no effect on bookings already made.

The exact content of the four policies is set out on the Cancellation policy page.

11. In the event of a dispute about a stay

The stay is governed by the contract entered into between the traveller and the host. Any complaint about the stay must be addressed to the host, who alone is responsible for it.

The traveller may report the dispute to Love in Room from their booking page. Love in Room may then facilitate exchanges between the parties and, where a refund is due, technically carry out that operation.

This involvement does not make Love in Room an arbitrator, does not bind it to any particular outcome, and does not make it a party to the accommodation contract.

For a dispute between a consumer and Love in Room itself, a consumer mediator has been appointed: its details appear in the legal notice.

12. Reviews

Reviews displayed come from two sources, distinguished publicly: reviews from travellers who have stayed following a booking made on the platform, and reviews imported by the host from another platform, whose origin is indicated.

Love in Room may subject reviews to moderation, before or after publication. Only published reviews count towards the displayed rating.

No review is published or removed in exchange for payment, and no review is ranked on the basis of payment. The host has a right of reply.

For a review left by a traveller, Love in Room verifies that a corresponding booking was made on the platform. For a review imported by the host, no authenticity check is carried out and the origin of the review is indicated.

13. Outbound links

Love in Room uses no affiliate tracking on its outbound links. No partnership identifier is added to the addresses the platform links to, and no payment is received for an outbound click.
